Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Kia Ora! I’m back! this week for reading we learnt about Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi). Some things we  did were answer questions after watching videos or writing about some of the people involved with the treaty.

This was channel one. For this we had to watch a video and answer questions. Something I learnt about was that there were only 34 chiefs.

This was channel four. For this one we had to write about what we knew about these 5 key figures in the signing of the treaty. It was really interesting to learn that Henry Williams translated the treaty into Maori.

This was channel six. For this one we had to explain what the words meant to the Maori and to the British.I wonder why a British person translated it to Maori

What do you know about the Treaty of Waitangi?

Onyx Island

This term for PBL we are learning about the things on planet earth like soil, water, rocks, air and life forms. We could either make a :

  • Paper Mache Model
  • Minecraft model
  • 3D Digital model
  • 3D paper model
  • Make a map
  • Craft a model
  • 3D Poster

I decided to make a minecraft model. Since I sprained my ankle, I was not here for two days which made my create harder for me so I had to make my world so much smaller than I expected. I made my island for human beings to live in which has some fruit trees and clean water for them to survive.

My island is down below.

The link to my planning document is here -> link

We also needed to do a written blurb, in that we had to write what we added in the island. My written blurb is down below.

Would you live in Onyx Island?

Tweeting about muscles

This week for writing we got a literacy task board and we could choose to do a create out of 5 tasks and for the task I did I had to watch a video and sum it up to only 100 words. We had to make it through a fake twitter post website. My writing goal was to create content that is concise and relevant to the curriculum task. We got three videos to choose from and I picked how muscles grow. My create is down below.

Did you know that you have over 600 muscles?

Nutritional Water

This week for reading we have been reading about natural resources. I learnt that 1/3 of the world is suffering from water stress. My learning goal was to identify several ideas, discuss the author’s stance or purpose, and understand relationships in the text.

I also learnt about forests. Did you know that every continent has forest except for Antarctica and many of the medicines we use today come from plants found only in tropical rain forests.

I chose water because I found it very interesting and I know lots of things about water.

What do you know about water?

You should stand up if you want to be healthy!

Last week in reading we were reading a text called Don’t sit if you want to keep fit and it was about how sitting can be really bad for your posture and how it can make your blood pressure lower. Our reading goal is to make connections between texts and own life experiences, using more sophisticated texts and to identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about. Our reading create this week was to make a poster about the negatives of sitting for too long and the benefits of moving. We also had to add 3 recommendations. My create is down below.

Would you rather sit or stand?

Arthur Lydiard

Last week in reading we were reading a text called Born to Run and it was about a man that loved playing rugby that wants to be fit and he started running 24km and then he started running for 400km. Our reading goal is to identify some text events and features, and discuss what they can make the reader think about. Our reading create last week was to create a short profile about Arthur Lydiards life. My create is down below.

Do you like running?

How we can be Champions on Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the white poppy, CND symbol, the dove symbol and the peace sign. The white poppy represents peace because it tells us to stay away from war.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because girls and boys should have equal things. I didn’t finish my peace artwork and I lost it but it was the Yin Yang in blue and pink.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Mother Teresa I thought this person was a champion of peace because Mother Teresa always helps the poor.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because seeing the different types of ways to show peace and how calming that can be. I learnt that Mother Teresa is a Champion of Peace One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by not causing fights and not making people mad.

What is your favorite Champion of Peace?
