This week for writing the year 7s had to write a letter to their future self and the year 8s had to write a memoir to possibly say at the year 8 leavers dinner. Since I am a year 8 I had to write a memoir. My memoir is down below.
I still vividly remember the day I joined St Francis in term 4 in 2018 when two girls approached me and asked “do you want to be friends?” and then a friendship began with Ari and Neve on my first day of school. Later through the years our group became bigger and bigger. I still remember my first camp at Blue Skies Camp in Paiaka when I was in a cabin with absolutely no friends but that helped me out to make a lot more friends.
In Tumu we went to Woodend, which was my favourite camp throughout my whole time at school. I still remember getting cut by barnacles at Wainui camp at term 3 in year 7 when we were coasteering (it was painful!). Later on last year a couple weeks after camp along with Ari, Neve, Ava, Zoe, Ella, Mikayla, Ainsley and I hosted and helped out at the disco. This year we made a new friend, Summer and it feels like we have been friends for so long and we will miss her and Zoe when they arent at Marian with the rest of us.
My friends were so helpful throughout the school years and I am so grateful for them. When I was in a wheelchair after my knee surgery my friends were such a big help and so were the teachers and I am so grateful for them.
Neve was so helpful and always helped me out when I was struggling with math questions and she was one of my first friends. Ari was a big help when I was alone, she would always include me in. Ava was helpful when my mum needed for me to stay over at someone’s house and I would always be at Ava’s house.
Ainsley was always bringing a smile to my face everyday and I always had her in my class for 4 years so being with her for those past years was so much fun. Mikayla is so nice and kind and generous and she has a really cool dog. Zoe is so funny and won’t stop keeping a smile on my face and she is so kind and caring yet I will still miss her next year.
Ella Warren is so funny and kind and when we were in the pbl group for the G.E.M mindfulness journal when we made cute little gratitude bracelets. Summer was such a good listener and was so kind and funny and she kept a smile on my face but I will miss her next year. Last year at the end of the term we had a water fight day where everyone got their waterguns and as soon as I reached school I was already soaking wet. We had a dunk tank, an inflatable soccer ball game and It was so much fun. The jump jam team was a really good memory especially when we got second place.
St Francis of Assisi School has taught me about making new friendships, good values, to be confident and to learn from your mistakes. Year 8 has taught me how to be a good leader and I will take what I learnt from this school to high school and throughout to the rest of my life. I am so grateful for this school because it helped me throughout the years.
I will really miss this school and everyone here and I hope everyone takes care of themselves for next year.
Will you miss this school?
